INTERESTING NEWS ITEM

While I was at work, I noticed an interesting news item on the front page of the ATLANTA JOURNAL CONSTITUTION.  The headline read, "UN: Iran May Be Masking Nuclear Program."  This intrigued me, especially taking into consideration several things.  But before I get into that, here's the article on FOX NEWS:

U.N.: Iran May Be Hiding Nuke Evidence From Investigators

Associated Press

VIENNA, Austria —  Iran may be withholding information needed to establish whether it tried to make nuclear arms, the International Atomic Energy Agency said Monday in an unusually strongly worded report.

The tone of the language suggesting Tehran continues to stonewall the U.N. nuclear monitor revealed a glimpse of the frustration felt by agency investigators stymied in their attempts to gain full answers to suspicious aspects of Iran's past nuclear activities.

A senior U.N. official familiar with the investigation into Iran's nuclear program said none of the dozens of agency reports issued in that context had ever been as plain spoken in calling Tehran to task for not being forthright. He agreed to discuss the report only if granted anonymity because he was not authorized to comment to the media.

Iran has described its cooperation with the agency's probe as positive, suggesting it was providing information requested by agency officials.

Ali Ashgar Soltanieh, Iran's chief delegate to the IAEA, said as much again Monday, telling The Associated Press that the report described "the peaceful nature of our nuclear actions."

The Americans failed ... in shameful attempts" to co-opt the agency into delivering anti-Iranian findings, he said.

He noted a paragraph in the report saying that agency experts had been given access to all declared nuclear material in Iran and verified that all of it was accounted for.

But Gregory L. Schulte, his U.S. counterpart, suggested the report was a strong indictment of Iran's defiance of the international community's efforts to get answers about troubling parts of its nuclear program, noting it "details a long list of questions that Iran has failed to answer."

"At the same time that Iran is stonewalling its inspectors, it's moving forward in developing its enrichment capability in violation of Security Council resolutions," Schulte told the AP.

He described parts of the report as a "direct rebuttal" of Iranian claims that all nuclear questions had been answered.

U.S. intelligence says Iran stopped work on nuclear weapons in 2003 but some other nations believe such activities continued past that date. The report noted Iran continued to deny such allegations.

Obtained by the AP, the restricted report forwarded to the U.N. Security Council and to the 35 board members of the IAEA said Iran remains defiant of the council's demands that it suspend uranium enrichment.

Shrugging off three sets of council sanctions, Iran has expanded its operational centrifuges — machines that churn out enriched uranium — by about 500 since the last IAEA report, in February, the new report said.

In announcing major progress in his government's push for nuclear power, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said last month that Iranian scientists were putting 6,000 new uranium enriching centrifuges into place and testing a new type that worked five times faster.

The IAEA report noted Iran now had only 3,500 centrifuges and said the few advanced machines actually running were only in a testing phase. Still the senior U.N. official said Iran's goal of 6,000 machines running by the summer was "pretty much plausible."

Uranium can be used as nuclear reactor fuel or as the core for atomic warheads, depending on the degree of enrichment.

Running smoothly, 3,000 centrifuges could produce enough nuclear material for a bomb within 18 months. But Iran insists it is only working to produce fuel for reactors that will generate electricity and says it has a right to conduct enrichment for such purposes under the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty.

In addressing whether Iran was complying with IAEA requests, the report appeared to come down on the side of the U.S. "Iran has not provided the Agency with all the information, access to documents and access to individuals necessary to support Iran's statements" that its activities are purely peaceful in intent, it said.

The Agency is of the view that Iran may have additional information, in particular on high explosives testing and missile related activities which ... Iran should share with the agency," the report said. It was referring to two alleged sets of tests that IAEA officials say could be linked to a nuclear weapons program.

The allegations of nuclear military programs "remain a matter of serious concern," the report said. Suggesting fears of clandestine weapons activities remain, it added: "Clarification of these is critical to an assessment of the nature of Iran's past and present nuclear program."

Iran already rejected evidence provided by the U.S and other IAEA board members on alleged weapons programs in February, but then promised to revisit the issue before the agency's next board meeting in a week.

Intelligence received by the IAEA in its investigations, as well as from the U.S. and other agency board member nations, suggest Iran experimented with an undeclared uranium enrichment program that was linked to a missile project and drew up blueprints on refitting missiles to allow them to carry nuclear warheads.

The intelligence also suggested Iran was researching construction of an underground site that apparently could be used to test fire nuclear bombs and ordered "dual use" equipment from abroad that could be part of an atomic weapons program.

Additionally, Iran possesses diagrams showing how to mold uranium metal into the shape of warheads.

Its nuclear work has been under IAEA investigation since 2003, when a dissident Iranian group revealed the existence of a clandestine enrichment program.

A personal note:  now isn't it quite clear why NORTH KOREA is partially funding Iran's nuclear program?  It's not to keep the lights on there!

Before I continue, here is Senator Obama's plan regarding Iran:

If elected President, Obama is in favor of  "economic sanctions", but only after carefully sifting through the intelligence.  As you read in the article above, it's been "sifted" since 2003.  I don't think we need to waste any more time with the "sifting".  And while we wait for the "economic sanctions" against Iran to take effect over a period of time, which in the past has been years, Iran develops nuclear weapons.  It would appear they are well on their right now.  Senator Obama's plan is the same worn out thing that I heard all the time I was growing up when the U.S. was the subject of a number of terrorist attacks overseas.  We would file our "formal protests", then apply "economic sanctions", and all the while conducting endless, meaningless negotiations that accomplished nothing other than political grandstanding and giving the terrorists time to plan another attack.  None of that has worked.  Senator Obama also indicated that we should talk with the Iranian president.  Only one problem:  terrorists do not negotiate.  Iran is a terrorist state.  North Korea partially funds their nuclear development program.  Red China sells arms to Iran.  Need I continue?

What I find very interesting about this whole thing is that the UNITED NATIONS, which is made up of mostly our enemies, and every key committee has mainly if not all enemy nations represented (for example, Red China on the Human Rights Commission - isn't that rich??), and the U. N.'s position is that Iran is a serious threat and has withheld information about its nuclear program atthe very least.  The liberal left in our country, is of the opinion that Iran is not a serious threat, and that President Bush is just looking for a reason to start another war before he leaves office.  So, in comparison to the U. N., just where does that put the left in our country?

Just for the record, I hate war.  I despise it, I hate what it does to families, I hate what it does to the combat survivors, and I hate the loss of human life.  I wish we lived in a world where it did not happen.  But, throughout history, the United States has never started a war.  Countries ruled by dictators with visions of world domination attempting to carry it out, terrorist states, and oppressive regimes always start it, either by attacking or threatening our allies, or attacking us directly, are the ones that start it.  We have to go finish it.  And in the WAR ON TERROR, for once, in the words of one young Marine, "we took the ballgame to THEIR five yardline."  I've been sickened for thirty years by our weak-spined political grandstanding in response to terrorist attacks against the United States at which the terrorist countries and our other enemies just laughed.  Even as a pre-teen and teenager, I kept saying the only thing terrorists understand is force which isa military response.  And if Iran has not gotten the idea by now that we mean business, then we should go ahead and take care of business before Iran develops nuclear weapons.  The entire world will lose in a nuclear confrontation between Iran and Israel and/or the U.S.

THANK YOU!

Today is MEMORIAL DAY.  For most, this is the "official" start of the summer season, and is a day off from work, have a cookout, go on vacation, or any number of other things.  There is certainly nothing wrong with these activities in their proper place.  The real meaning of Memorial Day has largely been lost.  For most Americans, it's just a day of celebrating the start of the summer vacation season.  Observing Memorial Day on the last Monday of May to create a three-day weekend instead of on May 30th has led to the departure from the its real meaning.  A VFW Memorial Day address of 2002 states it very well:

"Changing the date merely to create three-day weekends has undermined the very meaning of the day.  No doubt, this has contributed greatly to the general public's nonchalant observance of Memorial Day."

Memorial Day was originally known as DECORATION DAY.  It was a day that businesses were closed.  Many towns had parades that usually ended at a cemetary.  People took the time to clean the graves of our fallen heroes and place flags on them.  The flag was flown at half-mast until noon.  This is largely not done now, and the real meaning is forgotten.  I think making it a Monday holiday has made it very easy to see as just another day off from work, a long weekend, or a vacation week.

Senator Daniel Inouye, D-Hawaii, introduced a bill on March 17, 1989 to restore the Memorial Day observance back to May 30th.  He stands alone and reintroduces the bill at every new Congress which is every two years.  Senator Inouye most recently introduced the bill January 4, 2007 as S 70 to the Senate.  There are no co-sponsors.  The bill was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary on the same day it was read.  Of course, there has been no further action.  Senator Inouye's opening remarks when he introduced the bill says it all:

"Mr. President, in our effort to accommodate many Americans by making the last Monday in May, Memorial Day, we have lost sight of the significance of this day to our nation. Instead of using Memorial Day as a time to honor and reflect on the sacrifices made by Americans in combat, many Americans use the day as a celebration of the beginning of summer. My bill would restore Memorial Day to May 30 and authorize our flag to fly at half mast on that day. In addition, this legislation would authorize the President to issue a proclamation designating Memorial Day and Veterans Day as days for prayer and ceremonies honoring American veterans. This legislation would help restore the recognition our veterans deserve for the sacrifices they have made on behalf of our nation." (1999 Congressional Record, page S621)

A little background:  Senator Inouye is a World War II combat veteran who received the Distinguished Service Cross.  This was later upgraded to the Medal of Honor.  Senator Inouye's biography can be read HERE.

I think the Moment of Remembrance at 3:00 p.m. that was started in 2001 is a good start to getting back to the observance of Memorial Day as it should be.  Memorial Day is one of the most important observances we have in America, because so many have fought and died and continue to fight and die for our freedom and security.  You and I are safe and secure because of the sacrifices made by our military.  Whether or not they see combat does not matter.  The general public has no idea how great a sacrifice it is from the time the dotted line is signed.  There is no such thing as an insignificant job in our Armed Forces.  Every job that every person serving has is important to our national security and the defense of freedom.  I don't care what their job is, I am grateful and deeply indebted to them all.

Thank you to all who are serving, and have served defending freedom.  I have said it many times in this journal or commenting in others' journals, and I'll say it again:  This is a debt that can never be repaid.  I am one American that is very proud of each and every one of you, no matter what you, no matter where you are.  THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU!!!

Please take a moment at 3:00 p.m. today to remember and reflect on those who have sacrificed so much.  If not today, please do so on the traditional Memorial Day of May 30th, and don't forget to thank a veteran.  I thank every serviceman or servicewoman I see in passing.  They really do appreciate gratitude.  It's precious little for all they do.

IT'S NOT SO MUCH WHO YOU VOTE FOR, BUT WHAT!

The title of this entry may seem to be a derogatory statement against a particular candidate or candidates.  But it's not.  What I will be doing here is posting the party platform of both the Democratic and Republican parties.  I found a website, ON THE ISSUES, that has an excellent, concise posting of the party platforms.  So far, I have read the Democratic party platform on their own website and it's quite lengthy.  Their 2008 platform has not been posted yet for some reason.  I read the latest they had posted which was 2004, and read the 2008 CALIFORNIA DEMOCRATIC PARTY platform, and everything I read was identical.  I will have to break this down into several entries due to its length.  If you want to see the synopsis in its entirety by On the Issues, CLICK HERE.

You may ask why I'm doing this.  The reason is I'm trying to inform voters of exactly WHAT they'll be voting for in November.  Many voters do not realize this, but any candidate who affiliates with a particular party MUST agree to commit to the party platform.  REGARDLESS of the endless rhetoric you hear on television and radio, when it comes to the bottom line, each candidate must abide by the party platform.  They have to be committed to it in order to receive campaign funding from the party.  All of this is done behind the scenes.  What you see and hear out of candidates trying to be elected is mostly that - what they think the majority of voters want to hear to get elected.

I will begin with the Democratic party's stance on abortion, the budget and economy, and civil rights.  As is my policy to source whatever I post here unless I specifically say it's just my opinion, On the Issues offers clickable links on each section of several full quotes concerning each issue and also other political leaders.  If you wish to see them, click on my link above to take you to the party platform synopsis.  I think you will find as you read this, that there are differences between what each of the Democratic Presidential candidates are saying, and what their party platform says. You will also see problems with how to achieve some of the party goals, and you may even find some rhetoric in the party platform too as certain things are unrealistic.  Regardless, when there is a difference between what a candidate is telling you and what the party platform says, the party platform prevails.

As I go through each party's platforms, I hope you will find the information enlightening and useful.  I may be interrupting the series with information about each of the candidates, especially as stories happen.  As usual, I will post the truth that you may not necessarily see in the mainstream media, but you need to know before you cast your ballot.

    ARMED FORCES DAY 2008

It doesn't seem that very many people know about this, and I doubt seriously that it's even mentioned in our public schools anymore, sort of like Flag Day.  President Harry Truman wanted a holiday to give the opportunity for everyone to thank our heroes for their service to our country.  This day was established August 31, 1949 by Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson, and replaced separate days for each branch of the military.  The idea for a single day rather than separate days came from all of the different branches being brought together under the Department of Defense.

Be sure to thank anyone who has served or is serving in our Armed Forces.  Because of them, you enjoy freedoms, safety, and security that many throughout the world do not.

    THE TRUTH ABOUT VACCINES

Here is a video about something I have been hearing for years now.  I have heard a number of doctors, "voices crying in the wilderness" as it were, trying to warn people about this.  In short, vaccines contain a number of toxic poisons.  I was familiar with part of the list, but wait until you see the list in this video.  It's shocking, unbelievable, but not surprising, because big money once again overrides our health and wellbeing.  This is extremely important information.  Please take the time to view the video in its entirety.

    ISRAEL'S 60TH ANNIVERSARY TODAY!

On May 14, 1948, Israel officially became a sovereign nation after the loss of Jewish independence about 2000 years before.  Below is a video that shows footage of the original UN vote in November 1947 that officially recognized the sovereign nation of Israel.  For those of you that are familiar with Bible prophecy, this was a major fulfillment of Ezekiel 37:21: "Surely I will take the children of Israel from among the nations, wherever they have gone, and will gather them from every side and bring them into their own land."  Since the video is a little long, almost nine minutes, I will keep this brief by making only one other point.  The United States, as I said in an earlier post, MUST understand that the Palistinians, as well as Israel's other enemies, are not interested in peace.  Their only interest is the total destruction of Israel.  Just minutes after President Bush described Israel as a democracy battling the forces of terror today, a rocket hit a shopping mall in southern Israel.  According to NEWS REPORTS, ten people were injured, but fortunately no one killed.

SPEAKING OF THE CLIMBING COST OF LIVING . . .

Here's an article that Carolyn, NO APOLOGIES, BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVES ON WORLD EVENTS and NO APOLOGIES, NEWS FROM THE FRONT LINES sent me.  It's authored by Thomas D. Segel, a retired U. S. Marine.  This article appeared in THE NEW MEDIA JOURNAL on April 26, 2008.  This article ties in with my entry, ETHANOL, HISTORY REPEATED 'CAUSE WE DIDN'T LEARN THE FIRST TIME!  In case you missed it, the entry title is hyperlinked.  Thanks for sharing this, Carolyn!

A Gallon of Milk, A Gallon of Gas & The Ethanol Hoax
    USA Thomas D. Segel
    April 26, 2008

When I read the newspaper or view the nightly television news shows I can’t help but feel almost uncontrollable anger. And the truth is I really don’t know where that anger should be directed. I listen to my fellow citizens’ anguish about the price of fuel, the price of food and sticker shock at everything they want to purchase. They have great concerns about the price of gas at the local station and the cost of milk at the super market. And they blame the politicians for inaction, along with greedy farmers and Big Oil for high prices. With their next breath they are crying for more of our corn based ethanol to help lower prices at the pump. It is enough to make a rational person want to bash his or her head against the nearest hard object in complete frustration.

For the past thirty plus years we have allowed the environmental activists of the Democratic Party to stop all forward movement in our national quest for energy independence. We know how to obtain oil from places such as Alaska, Wyoming and the Dakotas, but legislation to drill has been blocked. We know oil is waiting offshore, but we are not allowed to drill due to environmental impact, even though other nations are reaching for that same oil, just a few miles away.

We have even allowed these same activists to stop the building of new oil refineries for the past 30 years.

Our energy demands from abroad could be reduced by nuclear power, but the socialist led environmentalists have swayed enough pandering politicians to stop the production of nuclear power plants. Other socialist-activists who hide behind the green wall of environmentalism have slowed the much touted wind farms of this country to almost a standstill. When construction is almost at hand there is always another call for a study to see if these wind farms will kill migrating birds, or perhaps block Ted Kennedy’s oceanfront view.

Though the United States has enough coal to handle the majority of our energy needs for decades, political roadblocks keep on appearing to slow the rapid development of coal based technology.

While on the topic of energy concerns, lets not forget the political love affair with corn-based ethanol. To say this bio fuel is a gigantic con game perpetrated by corn producers and politicos would be an understatement. We must add into the mix major corporations that keep the myth of reduced dependence on oil alive, because they are financially invested in bio-fuels.

When we examine the politician’s incessant praising of corn based ethanol, we fail to understand these are really people who are prostituting themselves for more votes and financial support fromthe agro-community.

Ethanol, as we produce it today, is 20% less efficient than gasoline. It takes 450 pounds of corn to produce enough ethanol to fill the tank of the average American automobile. (Think about that for a minute. It also takes about 450 pounds of corn to feed one person for a year.) It is too corrosive to be shipped via pipeline and must be trucked to distribution points. Added to these negatives…it takes more than one gallon of fossil fuel, coal, oil, or natural gas, to produce one gallon of ethanol.

Writing on the Mother Jones website, Cameron Scott says, “To grow enough corn for ethanol to replace our oil addiction would require approximately 482 million acres of cropland. exceeding the total of 434 million acres of cropland used for all food and fiber. This does not even account for projected growth of oil consumption in the U.S.”

Added to these problem areas, ethanol production increases, rather than reduces, environmental concerns. Production requires the application of petroleum-based fertilizers that have contributed heavily to the emission of nitrous oxide, a greenhouse gas 300 times more potent than carbon dioxide. To produce a gallon of ethanol requires three to five gallons of water and results in 13 gallons of toxic trash and wastewater. It takes the energy equivalent of 113 liters of gas to treat this waste.

Dr. Walter Williams, the distinguished author, columnist and professor at George Mason University says, “The grain based ethanol hoax is a sterling example of a program economists refer to as narrow, well- defined benefits versus widely dispersed costs. It pays the ethanol lobby to organize and collect money to grease the palms of politicians willing to do their bidding because there is a large benefit to them – higher wages and profits. The millions of fuel consumers, who fund these benefits through higher fuel costs and food prices, as well as taxes, are relatively uninformed and have little clout.”

So, we tolerate $6.00 corn used to produce $2.00 ethanol, which is also subsidized by the government to the tune of $1.05 to $1.38 per gallon, because it would not survive on the free market. Thus, we allow the costs to each of us personally to increase even more, because those subsidies come directly from our tax dollars.

But, we haven’t finished here. How about that box of cereal, or that steak, or that gallon of milk? Have you checked market prices lately?

Last night a woman on the evening news was telling the reporter that, “I had to choose between paying about $3.50 for a gallon of gas, or buying a gallon of milk for my children.”

A convenience store operator told the news reporter that the high price of gas had resulted in him losing customers. “People don’t fill their tanks”, he said. “And they don’t come in to the store and buy things like they did before. I am making much less money in my business.”

Yes, prices have sky rocketed on everything from beef to milk and cereal to soda pop. Even beer has jumped in price, because corn and other grains are being diverted into producing fuels.

Reporting in the Des Moines Register, Philip Brasher has noted “A Senate-passed energy bill would require the use of 15 billion gallons of ethanol by 2015, more than double what motorists are expected to use this year. The mandate would be raised to 36 billion gallons by 2022.

At the same time difficulties in transporting the bio fuel to distant locales have produced a glut of ethanol in Iowa and Nebraska, thus dropping the price by 50 cents a gallon and, of course, increasing the subsidies paid to the producers. Even with this happening dozens of plants are under construction and current distilleries are being expanded. More corn is being planted to feed the bio fuel industry and less corn and other grains are being raised to feed the hungry.

So, as you look at high prices everywhere there are a lot of people you can blame. You can point your rage at Big Oil, Big Industry, Big Farmers, Big Politicians…and on and on. But, the person you really should be angry at owns that face you see every day in the mirror.

Too many of us expected the politicians to be fathers, mothers and nannies combined. What they really ended up doing is stealing our modern way of life.

Ethanol is all about the money.  Not reducing our dependence on foreign oil, not about the environment, and certainly NOT about you and I.  It's all about the money . . . going OUT of your wallet and into the hands of politicians and special interests that is.
