"IT'S NOT PERSONAL, IT'S BUSINESS"

I'm posting today to try and make sure that everyone who has me on alerts is aware that J-land is going away November 1st.  In making my rounds in J-land, there are many that do not appear to know about this.  Maybe they do, and they're either just not saying anything about it, or planning to just let it go and not journal anywhere anymore.  Here is a copy of the notice:

Attention AOL Journals Users -- United States

Dear AOL Journals user,

We're sorry to inform you that on Oct. 31, 2008, AOL® Journals will be shut down permanently. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

It is very important that you save your Journals content before the shutdown. We're working on a way to easily move your Journal to another blogging service -- you can expect an email within the next week with more details about how to do it. We want the transition to go as smoothly as possible for you, so you'll have two choices. You can either save your information manually and find another place to blog on your own, or let us handle the migration for you and automatically transfer your Journal to a different blogging service.

In the meantime, please bookmark the People Connection Blog, where you can find out more about AOL Journals. You can also subscribe to the People Connection Blog RSS feed to stay informed about any changes. We'll be updating the People Connection Blog often, so please check it regularly.

Sincerely,

The AOL Journals Team

You can get up to date information on MAGIC SMOKE and there will be instructions posted on how to copy your AOL journal to BLOGGER.  If you are planning to copy your journal over to Blogger when it becomes available, I STRONGLY suggest you save your journal to the hard drive of your computer, or save it somehow before doing it.  I would not depend on the migration to Blogger alone.  As is the case with computers, computers can still stump even the best techs by doing something off the wall.

This is definitely the end of the community we enjoy here.  I've seen comments from a number of J-landers who are not planning to copy their journal over to Blogger and to stop journaling altogether.  I hope those will reconsider, at least copy their journal over so it won't be lost.  Others are going elsewhere, and still others are copying their journal into Blogger, but will stop journaling.  I can understand how they feel.  I haven't decided if I will continue journaling or not.  That's why I haven't given a URL of my new journal location in Blogger.  All I have there is a test blog, and so far things are not going well.  The option to add a background of your choosing is not there.  There are only a few very plain fonts available, and using the 14 point font I use here is out of the question.  Not enough horizontal room in the entry area (I've always used the large fonts so it won't be tedious to read, and I've had one journaler who was visually impaired that appreciated it).  Blogger is anything but user friendly.  It's not even close to the user friendliness of AOL.  Even at that, it took me a year to become somewhat proficient with AOL journals so I could improve the appearance of my journal and hopefully make it more interesting.  I really don't know if I can put that kind of time into Blogger just to come back up to ground level. If I decide to continue journaling on Blogger, I will send out my URL by e-mail to those on my AIM e-mailing list.  If you're not on that list, or are not sure, e-mail your address to me.

Like many others, I left a comment on Magic Smoke stating my objections to this decision by AOL.  I got a response from Vish saying "thiswas a business decision", hence the title of this entry.  The reason I saw from the CEO was that AOL Journals wasn't making enough money.  Individuals don't matter with AOL.  No consideration about those journals that are still here by people who have passed away.  These journals are here for many to share in these people's lives.  Not for long though.  GUIDO tried to have AOL save these journals and transfer them to a location Blogger.  He made an entry (click on his name above) that it won't happen.  Figures.  AOL doesn't care.  The only way these journals can be copied is if someone in their family has access.  Some will be lost forever come November 1st.  It will be like just wiping away any remembrance or legacy like they never existed.

I think in the end, AOL will regret this decision.  I've seen comments from many J-landers who are paying subscribers who have said they are discontinuing their subscriptions.  Not making enough money? Well, AOL, you'll be making less now.

Now that I've vented about this, I just wanted to thank all of my readors over the past year and few months for your readership and comments, including those with differing viewpoints.  In addition to a forum where I could provide information literally on a world-wide basis, readers presented viewpoints on both sides of issues really did fulfill the mission of my journal - exercising our FIRST AMENDMENT rights!

WASHINGTON'S DOING IT AGAIN, WHEN WILL THEY EVER LEARN?? (PART I)

I will continue my party platform series and some more posts about Senator McCain and his positions on various issues, but there is some very important events taking place in Israel right now.  When I saw this, I knew I needed to post it.  You definitely will not hear this on any of the mainstream media outlets in the U.S

This is an article from the Israel News Service’s ARUTZ SHEVA.  This should concern every single American as anytime we sell out Israel, there is always a very quick negative impact on the United States.  It is vitally important that as many Americans as possible know about this.  Here is the article:

US Won't Help Israel Attack Iran

by Ze'ev Ben-Yechiel

Photobucket

Israel may soon be left with no realistic option to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities and no time to find another solution. The United States has turned down Israeli requests for military assistance in attacking Iran’s nuclear facilities. This will hamper the tiny Jewish state in facing off alone against the much larger Islamic Republic which is equipped with some of the latest military technology from Russia. As compensation, the U.S. has agreed to bolster Israel’s missile defense system.”

Israel would not be allowed to refuel its military planes in Iraq, or even use Iraqi airspace for a flyover on the way to Iran. Even if Israeli jets were to reach Iran, they might not be able to carry powerful enough bombs to do the job. The U.S. has refused to supply Israel with equipment such as bunker-buster bombs critical in destroying heavily fortified nuclear installations.”

“Israeli officials have been in talks with their American counterparts for several months over specific requests for military assistance, and U.S.reticence over an Israeli strike hasled American military and diplomatic officials to decide against supporting what they see as Israel’s growing commitment to an attack on Iran.”

“Among the requests most critical for a successful Israeli solo strike on Iran is the ability to use Iraqi air fields as a refueling point for Israel’s fighter-bomber fleet that would be used in the attack.”

“The dropping of guided bombs on targets as small and sensitive as a nuclear reactor requires the precision and agility that could be likely achieved only by a very low-altitude release.”

“The distance between Israel and Iran’s nuclear reactor at Bushehr is over 800 miles. A large bomber aircraft would have the fuel range for such a non-stop round-trip flight from Israel. However, the necessity of a low-altitude approach to the target, combined with the heavier aircraft’s low speed and maneuverability and lack of sufficient armaments such as rockets or cannon, would render it extremely vulnerable to anti-aircraft fire or attacking Iranian jets. Last December, Russia installed one of its latest anti-aircraft missile networks in the hostile Islamic Republic.”

“Such operations are therefore usually performed with supersonic fighter-bomber aircraft, such as theF-15s and F-16s

Photobucket

used in the 1981 bombing of Iraq’s Osirak nuclear reactor and last year’s bombing of the nascent Syrian reactors. However, these aircraft do not have the fuel range to safely make a trip to Iran and back without refueling. Unless the Israeli planes would be able to refuel somewhere along the way – American-occupied Iraq being the only viable choice – a bombing run on Iran would likely become a suicide mission.”(My commentary here: Because we won’t even allow Israeli planes to pass through Iraq or use landing fields in Iraq, I think there is a very good likelihood that many Israeli pilots would die unnecessarily).

WASHINGTON'S DOING IT AGAIN, WHEN WILL THEY EVER LEARN?? (PART II)

“Even if Israeli pilots volunteered for a kamikaze mission, the expense of the aircraft, in addition to the risk of Iran obtaining the Israeli-modified jets – some of the most advanced in the world – even in partially destroyed condition, would make it unlikely that Israel’s Defense Ministry would approve of such an attack.” (Me again: This doesn’t mean they won’t.  One way or another, Israel has proven they will defend themselves.  If it means suicide missions like many of our young men did in WWII, they will do it if there’s no other alternative.  It looks like Washington has left them with no other alternative.  To prevent Iran from getting one, the planes could be easily outfitted to be destroyed by the pilot in the air. Our old U-2 reconnaissance planes from fifty years ago were so equipped. Photo is clickable for more on this aircraft). Photobucket

“Israeli aircraft would not need to actually land in Iraq to refuel, as it is common practice to refuel in the air using long-range air tankers. However, the tankers that the Israeli Air Force currently has are outdated, making it difficult to coordinate refueling for such a long-distance mission. To address this concern, Israel reportedly requested the more modern Boeing 767-based

Photobucket

refueling tankers, but the U.S. has also rejected this request, as reported several weeks ago by Israel’s Channel 10 television.”

“Even if the Israeli jets were able to be refueled in the air by long-range air tankers, a mission to Iran would require an overflight of Iraq, the only country that would possibly be willing to allow Israeli aircraft in its airspace. A glance at El-Al passenger flight routes from an in-flight magazine illustrates this clearly:  Flights en route to Asia and the Far East, normally represented by graceful curves for non-Israeli airlines, suddenly become sharp turns northward or southward in order avoid flying over Middle Eastern countries.”

“However, the United States has apparently refused to authorize Israel to fly over Iraq as well, and according to one report, American officials told their Israeli counterparts to ask permission from the Iraqi prime minister themselves. It is very unlikely that Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki would volunteer to allow Israel to use his country’s airspace without pressure from the U.S., since such a move would antagonize many Arab countries in the region.”

“In an apparent attempt to compensate for its unwillingness to assist Israel’s needs for an Iran strike, the U.S. has offered to deliver an advanced radar warning system, to be installed in the Negev and manned by a permanent U.S. staff working alongside Israeli military personnel. The Pentagon has apparently placed the order already.”

“Meanwhile, a spokeswoman for the Russian state-owned company building Iran’s Bushehr reactor announced last week that the construction of the reactor will reach a state of “no return” by early 2009.” (My commentary: And you were probably wondering why this matter is so urgent now).

“While a better radar system promises to greatly enhance Israel’s ability to detect a long-range aerial attack from Iran, Israel may soon be left with no realistic option to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities and no time to find another solution.”

WASHINGTON'S DOING IT AGAIN, WHEN WE'LL THEY EVER LEARN?? (PART III)

Folks, once again, America is treading on very dangerous ground.  Our politicians are selling Israel out for two reasons: first, as you all know, we absolutely must not offend the Arabs.  The U.S. has been way too concerned about keeping the Arabs happy.  They only act friendly towards us because we continue to buy their oil and they don’t mind the extra security of having our military bases there.  If we started drilling for own oil here, and in a few years no longer needed their oil, I think we’d see a whole other side of the Arabic nations as in they wouldn’t be so super-friendly.  The second reason is that backing Israel right before the Presidential elections would be politically inconvenient.  The majority of Americans have been so taken in by the liberal news media hype to oppose the WAR ON TERROR that I think the Bush administration fears that backing Israel on this issue might cost Senator McCain the election.  The liberal news media has been gearing up to crucify President Bush about Iran for quite some time now.

America, we’re going to have to fight Iran sooner or later.  Iran already has advanced weapons systems in place right now courtesy of Russia.  Iran’s nuclear weapons program is being partially funded by North Korea.  Israel wants to take action now before the first nuclear reactor reaches the “point of no return”.  Iranian President Man-i-need-a-job’s

Photobucket        Photobucket

primary goal is to completely destroy the nation of Israel and the United States (in the graphic, yes, that’s the U.S. already fallen and broken prior to the fall of Israel).  He is taking steps to carry out that threat.  Iran needs to be stopped now before they have nuclear weapons.  When a war is inevitable, it’s obviously much better if it’s conventional rather than nuclear.

One more thing to think about.  I’m sure that this has brought questions to our Allies about whether or not we would back them.  Since our position with other countries has for years now depended on whether or not it’s “politically convenient” or if it would offend other enemy nations.

It’s high time that we had politicians with some backbone that would do the right thing regardless of the impact on their own political careers.

IT'S NOT NECESSARILY WHO YOU VOTE FOR, BUT WHAT, continued

This is a continuation of my series on each of the political parties that have candidates in this year's Presidential race.  It’s dry material, not real exciting, but I believe it’s necessary information that we all need before we cast a vote.  Most do not understand that each candidate is committed to their party’s platform, and what we all hear during a campaign may or may not line up with it.  When it doesn’t, if that candidate is elected, that candidate will try to advance the party platform instead of what he or she said during the campaign.

The CONSTITUTION PARTY  2008 Presidential candidate is CHUCK BALDWIN.  I have not beenable to find any type of analysis of the party platform.  Their platform is lengthy, but if you wish to read it, click HERE.  I am posting an analysis of Chuck Baldwin himself from ON THE ISSUES.  The analysis will be the same as before, concluding with a graph to easily show his overall political leanings.

CHUCK BALDWIN ON ABORTION

  • Overturn Roe v. Wade. (Jul 2008)
  • God begins human life at fertilization. (May 2008)
  • Abortion is America's national holocaust. (May 2008)
  • GOP did nothing to overturn Roe or end abortion-on-demand. (May 2008)
  • Supports Sanctity of Life Act, defining fetus as person. (Apr 2008)

CHUCK BALDWIN ON BUDGET & ECONOMY

Restore a debt free, interest free money system. (May 2008)

CHUCK BALDWIN ON CIVIL RIGHTS

  • Patriotism is not love of Big Government or Big Brother. (Mar 2008)

CHUCK BALDWIN ON CORPORATIONS

  • Restore manufacturing base, not multinational corporations. (May 2008)
  • End corporate welfare; put people ahead of CEOs. (May 2008)

CHUCK BALDWIN ON CRIME

No issue stance yet recorded by OnTheIssues.org.

CHUCK BALDWIN ON DRUGS

No issue stance yet recorded by OnTheIssues.org.

CHUCK BALDWIN ON EDUCATION

  • Tax relief for homeschooling, private & religious schools. (May 2008)
  • Disband the Department of Education; it's unconstitutional. (May 2008)
  • Would be best friend homeschoolers ever had in White House. (May 2008)

CHUCK BALDWIN ON ENERGY & OIL

  • Drill in Alaska for domestic energy sources. (May 2008)
  • More drilling; more refineries; more nuclear power plants. (May 2008) (We better and we better do it soon – Red China is now drilling for our oil just fifty miles off the Florida coast.  And just what is Congress doing? Nothing.  Pursuing alternative energy exclusively will do nothing for years.  The technology has to be developed.  Drilling now would buy us time to do so.)

CHUCK BALDWIN ON ENVIRONMENT

  • Champion property rights & oppose eminent domain abuse. (May 2008)

CHUCK BALDWIN ON FAMILIES & CHILDREN

  • Parents should take kids to church & pray with them. (Jun 2008)

CHUCK BALDWIN ON FOREIGN POLICY

  • End international meddling of the New World Order. (May 2008)
  • No US participation in United Nations or world court. (May 2008)
  • End foreign aid; end nation-building; end empire-building. (May 2008)

CHUCK BALDWIN ON FREE TRADE

  • No North American Union; no NAFTA Superhighway. (May 2008)
  • Don't merge US into North American Community. (May 2008)
  • Out of the UN, NAFTA, and NATO. (May 2008) (I agree with getting us out of the so-called free trade agreements.  It’s proven disastrous to domestic manufacturing.  Withdrawing from NATO is unrealistic though.  History has proven isolationism doesn’t work and would seriously threaten our national security.)

I’ll have more later.

Libertarian Party is a Hard-Core Libertarian.
explanation of political philosophy.

There are other parties that have candidates running for President this year, such as Chuck Baldwin (Constitution Party), Alan Keyes (American Independent Party), Gloria La Riva (Party for Socialism & Liberation), Frank McNulty (New American Independent Party), and Ralph Nader (Independent).  So far, I haven't been able to find an analysis such as we have had for the Democratic, Republican, Libertarian, and Green Parties.  It appears I'll be posting on the positions of the candidates themselves.  I'm hoping that when finished, all will be able to make an informed vote this November.

MORE ON IT'S NOT NECESSARILY WHO YOU VOTE FOR BUT WHAT

We are continuing to look at the Libertarian Party platform.

LIBERTARIAN PARTY ON ENVIRONMENT

  • GALE NORTON is ‘giant leap’ for environmental sense. (Jan 2001)
  • Government is the worst polluter. (Nov 2000)
  • The parties responsible for pollution should be held liable. (Jul 2000) (The upper management level people in the Environmental Protection Agency would have to be dismissed, so the field agents reports would not be re-written during the administrative approval process).

LIBERTARIAN PARTY ON FAMILY AND CHILDREN

  • Keep families free from government intrusion. (Jul 2000)
  • LIBERTARIAN PARTY ON FOREIGN POLICY

    • Tyranny around the world must be condemned. (Jul 2000)
    • No U.S. intervention in the affairs of other countries. (Jul 2000) (Can't have it both ways.  There are times when there is no other choice.  We spent way too many years "condemning tyranny", and I just know those words struck fear in the hearts of Third-World dicatators everywhere! Yeah, right!)

    LIBERTARIAN PARTY ON FREE TRADE

    • Remove governmental impediments to free trade. (May 2008)
    • Prosperity will come from unrestricted free markets. (Jul 2000)
    • Abolish all trade barriers and agreements. (Jul 2000) (As I've said before, we've experienced the consequences of so-called "free trade" already, mainly in the loss of manufacturing in the U.S.) China
    • Abolish all trade barriers and trade agreements. (Jul 2000) (Bill Clinton already gave Most Favored Nation status to Red China - one of our chief enemies.  Any nation that is NOT one of our allies, should NEVER have Most Favored Nation status for ANY reason.  But then, it's all about the money, so PRINCIPLE went right out the window).

    LIBERTARIAN PARTY ON GOVERNMENT REFORM

    • Repeal laws which restrict voluntary financing of campaigns. (May 2008)
    • The government should keep “hands off” the economy. (Jul 2000)
    • Abolish the Department of Energy. (Jul 2000)

    LIBERTARIAN PARTY ON GUN CONTROL

    • Affirm the right to keep and bear arms. (May 2008)
    • Repeal all gun control laws and regulation of weapons. (Jul 2000)

    LIBERTARIAN PARTY ON HEALTHCARE

    • Restore and revive a free market health care system. (May 2008)
    • Government should not be in the health insurance business. (Jul 2000) (I certainly agree on this one - ANYTHING the government tries to run ends up being a huge, costly, bureaucratic mess that doesn't accomplish what it was intended to do).

    LIBERTARIAN PARTY ON HOMELAND SECURITY

    • Military should defend against aggression; not world police. (May 2008)
    • Reduce defense spending by half; just defend the US. (Nov 2000)
    • Build missile defense privately, with federal “reward”. (Nov 2000)
    • Oppose any form of national service. (Jul 2000)
    • Eliminate nuclear weapons & bring all U.S. troops home. (Jul 2000)
    • Support resistance to the draft. (Aug 1981) (These are all "isolationist" policies, proven by history to be disastrous to national security.  Isolationism got us Pearl Harbor).

    LIBERTARIAN PARTY ON IMMIGRATION

Eliminate all restrictions on immigration. (Jul 2000) (Also disastrous to national security.  This would allow terrorists to just walk in here freely).

    LIBERTARIAN PARTY ON JOBS

    • Union activity by choice only. (Jul 2000)
    • No welfare & no restrictions on work. (Jul 2000)

LIBERTARIAN PARTY ON PRINCIPLES & VALUES

    • Encourage individual freedom without government interference. (Jul 2000)
    • Church and state should be completely separate. (Jul 2000)
    • No taxation or regulation of private property. (Jul 2000)

    LIBERTARIAN PARTY ON SOCIAL SECURITY

    • Replace the Social Security system with a private system. (May 2008)
    • Privatize Social Security. (Jul 2000) (While it's true private enterprise can do things much more efficiently than government, but when you mix government and private enterprise, the result is always a mess).

    LIBERTARIAN PARTY ON TAX REFORM

    • Repeal the income tax and abolish the IRS. (May 2008)
    • Repeal all income taxes, & the 16th Amendment. (Jul 2000) (This is just a feel good vote-getter.  Common sense says the government has to have income to function.  I agree with repealing the 16th Amendment, abolish the IRS, and eliminate the income tax system as it is now.  The system needs to be changed to a flat tax or a national sales tax.  Either way, the tax burden on all of us would be much, much lighter, ALL of our paycheck would come home, and either system would be a windfall for the government).

    LIBERTARIAN PARTY ON TECHNOLOGY

  • Oppose communication censorship, especially about religion. (May 2008)
  • LIBERTARIAN PARTY ON WAR & PEACE

  • Eliminate intervention by US abroad. (Jul 2000) (As above, this got us Pearl Harbor, and terrorist attacksagainst U.S. military installations and U.S. business interests abroad since the late '60's or so.  Our rhetoric of "filing formal protests" accomplished nothing).
