MORE ON OIL

I'm writing this to comment on an article that Ken, BUCKO, shared the other day.  It is part of his Campaign Corner series.  Check out Ken's journal.  It's a really good read, and don't forget to visit his wife, Beth, at NUTWOOD JUNCTION.  Both journals are very enjoyable reading.  Stop by and visit them!

In order to understand what I'm talking about here, click HERE to take you to the article in Ken's journal.

The solution to the high oil and gas prices is to increase production - here at home.  In the past, ANYTIME we started taking steps toward increasing production in the U.S. AND working on advancing technology to work towards other types of energy other than that derived from oil, OPEC has dropped its prices almost immediately.  Why?  Because they know if they sell it to us cheaper than we can have our own people produce, we'll buy it from them, and STOP moving towards our own production and STOP working on other types of energy, and STOP moving towards telling OPEC to, uh, well, you know.  This has repeated itself several times in my lifetime.  We need to drill now, & when oil prices drop, we DON'T NEED TO STOP drilling here AND working on alternative sources of energy.  You would think we would learn from history sooner or later, but there are no historians in Washington - obviously.  Conservation is fine, but we've been steadily increasing the fuel efficiency of our cars and trucks for thirty-three years, and we're more dependent on foreign oil than ever before.

As far as Obama having a change of heart about drilling here - don't kid yourself.  To be a Democratic candidate, he has to support & be committed to the party platform.  The Democratic party platform OPPOSES drilling here.  This link will take you to it: http://www.ontheissues.org/Democratic_Party.htm  Obama will say anything to get elected.  The party will allow him to say anything in order to be elected.  But once there, you can forget this one.  Always compare what any candidate says with their party platform.  What the party platform says will be what they do if elected.

Instead of finishing their job and doing what is needed to become independent of Middle Eastern oil, the House Democrats, led by none other than House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, went on their annual 5-week vacation (Senate Democrats stayed too, but not out of concern for you or me.  It’s to keep President Bush from making “recess appointments”, and it’s something they’ve been doing all year.  The go into session every three working days, with each session being about thirty seconds long).  Folks, that's how UNIMPORTANT this situation is to them.  Every one of them in Congress are all extremely wealthy people, so since it doesn't bring any hardships personally, they do not care.  Now the Democrats have been joined by several spineless Republicans on this.    Since OVER 75% of Americans want to start drilling here NOW, are the people WE elected actually REPRESENTING US?  The answer is a resounding NO!  This of course is but one example of how OUR interests are NOT represented in Congress.  As I stated in a post in my journal some time ago, I think we should vote these people out, and send a clear message to the incoming Congressmenand women they better do their job, represent US, because if they don't, don't bother running for re-election because it won't happen.

Amen!  If only we could get this message out to all of the voters in this country.  I've actually heard people say they are voting for Obama because he's such a nice family man. What has this country come to with statements like that?   Linda in western Washington state

I totally agree with you!!! I do think we need to drill here; why are we giving all of our hard earned money to other countries and allowing them to get rich?? they have no problems drilling in their countries; why do we have such a problem drilling here? by the grace of the Lord, my husband and me make a nice income and while the high cost of gas/heating oil is not enjoyable to pay, it doesn't create a dent in our income like it does for younger people just getting started, the working poor, the disabled, the elderly, etc. It saddens me and worries me about people like that, including my 19 y/o son; what will his future be like? I do worry about our country if Omaba gets elected; I think those of us who call ourselves Christian need to really be praying about this election in the days ahead

Dirk,

Beth and I thank you for your plugs to our journals.

I agree we need more local drilling and exploration, but unfortunately, that will take 5-10 years to produce results.  During that time, we need to continue to develop other forms of energy production; shale, solar, nuclear, coal, hydrogen, etc.

Thanks for the visits.
